Everyone who sees The Almighty Rhombus play seems to have a different favourite song. Infectious pop that’s hard to get out of your head, the Sudbury band’s diverse sonic palette hits a different chord with all its fans. Made up of the three Drake brothers – Clayton, Cameron and Carter—and long-time friends Mike Kenny and Neil Bednis, there’s a bond of family and friendship that ties them together and lets them create music in a collaborative manner. The Almighty Rhombus has released a self-titled EP and will releasing their debut full-length, Lucid Living, this September on Cosmic Dave's Record Factory. Sound Vat describe them as having “the crazy indie-garage pop sound that everyone loves nailed. Simple as that.”
Was I the Wave? is the long-awaited sophomore offering from Montreal musician and producer Miracle Fortress (Graham Van Pelt). Miracle Fortress gained international recognition in 2007 for his debut album Five Roses, a unique collection of psychedelic shoe-gazey-pop that garnered high praise from numerous outlets. The Guardian gave it five stars and called it “gorgeous from start to finish,” Spin proclaimed “Montreal’s latest revelation is a pure pop pick me up” with four stars; and the Montreal Gazette called it “an indie-rock / synth-pop masterpiece,” bestowing five stars. Indeed, it became a much-loved record with something of a cult-following.
Rich Aucoin, an indie pop-rock musician from Halifax, writes music that taps into the happiness of youth and has been known to channe a type of communal euphoria at his shows. His energy, synthetic creations and multimedia effects drives audiences to their feet and bouncing. This past Spring Rich toured France and then on his return hit the road with K-Os for a series of Canadian shows. Rich’s We're All Dying To Live was nominated for the 2012 Polaris Prize and this year his Brian Wilson is ALiVE video won the inaugural Prism Prize. He has played at a number of the country’s more prominent festivals including: NXNE, Pop Montreal, CMW, TIFF, Halifax Pop Explosion, Evolve, Atlantic International Jazz Festival, and The Victoria International Jazz Festival.
Supertoke is a three piece band made up of Mexican Lucha Libre fighters who solve crimes and play sizzling instrumental rockabilly, surf and punk. Why have they made their home in snowy Sudbury, far from the ocean and the Mexican wrestling scene? … It doesn't make sense but they play so fast and sweet, it doesn't matter. 
Inspired heavily by legendary Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and his Afro-beat music, MINOTAURS take the funky, slinky backbone of afrobeat and apply it to the indie-rock folk songs of Nathan Lawr. Its propulsive rhythms and syncopated horn arrangements are catchy, inspiring, and mind-boggling funky all at once.
Eat'n Holler is Garrett, Amy and Ben. After touring North America in various bands and combinations of people, they are now a trio and have embarked on a tour across Canada, through wind, snow and abject silliness. With banjo, guitar and fiddle, they are two parts East Coast and one parts Montreal; they make beautiful street-grass? Flavour your morning coffee with this some rural squeegee blend.

Imagine 1960s French ye-ye rock colliding with psychedelic space rock with a splash of surf guitar and you’ll find Marie Clarie et les Hula-Hoops. This new band from Sudbury is made up of Marie-Claire Cronier, winner of Ontario Pop (2012), backed up by Strange Attractor band members brothers Mitch and Jeff Houle, and Eric Hoop. 
This Toronto-based power-trio combines frontman Will Gillespie's full-spectrum Canadian rock & roll songs with the undeniable talents of drummer-producer Josh Turnbull and bassist David Gluck's infectious energy. Three distinct voices making a unified statement: Real Songs played really well.
Love Banshee is a well dressed seven-piece band – with a fiddle, banjo, trumpet, guitars, and other fun instruments among their ranks-- from Waterloo, Ontario. In the fall of 2012 they released their debut album, So Long Stone which went on to hit number seven on !earshot’s National Folk/Roots/Blues chart in December of that year. 
Hilotrons will be breezing into R&S with some pop-new-wave-dance scented airwave freshener. The band’s latest album, At Least There’s Commotion, with Kelp Records, was released this May. Past albums including their self-titled debut EP, Happymatic , and Bella Simone have earned them a devoted following from across the country. Chartattack has described them as having “jerky syncopated beats that will get under your skin.” 
Their home may be in Wisconsin but these four Milwaukee dudes like to travel, having logged many US and UK tours since releasing That’s How We Burn with Subpop in 2010. Spin has described it as “the beaming choruses of ‘80s new wave with the lovable shrug of ‘90s guitar-based indie.” But our favourite review comes from The Onion’s AV Club: “On JAILL’s sub pop debut, That’s How We Burn, Milwaukee’s preeminent slacker-rock band combs its hair, puts on a clean shirt and remakes itself as a sleek savvy engineer of guitar-pop should-be hits.”
Their 1960s bubble-gum pop is not Hipster ironic. Toronto quintet, The Bicycles, are really devoted to this type of sun-shiny sound. After taking a short break to pursue individual projects, the band members “organically reunited” about a year ago to the ecstasy of many fans and began sending songs back and forth. The result is their latest album, Stop Thinking So Much, released in April of this year.
The Rural Alberta Advantage didn’t form on the windswept prairies but in Toronto, in 2005. However, their indie-rock folk songs about winters on the farm, the Rockies, hometowns, heartbreak, and miners are born from experiences from growing up in Central and Northern Alberta. Released in March 2011, Departing is the band's follow up release and companion piece to their critically-acclaimed and well-loved debut album, Hometowns. It was nominated for the Polaris Prize that year. The band is made up of Nils Edenloff on lead vocals and guitar, Amy Cole on backing vocals and keyboard, and Paul Banwatt on drums.
Strange Attractor is Jeff Houle’s basement recording project. Leaving the basement and hitting the stage,its members swell to include members of Sudbury punk legends Statues and Ultra Violence Ray . A mix of 60s garage, ‘70s & ’80s punk with a chaotic twist. The Seeds vs. Angry Samoans aesthetics. These mutant punks/garage goons have toured 10 countries, released albums on Ptrash, Red Lounge and FDH Records and have received favourable reviews in Terminal Boredom, MRR, Mongrel zine...
River & Sky folks met Hooded Fang’s psychedelic-pop sounds at our third festival - out in Kearney. With more garage punk sound they will fit right in with Strange Attractor. This is not going to be a "shush" "shush" set. The band’s been together since the winter of 2008, when the friends/roommates decided to start playing music together. Inspired by Mordecai Richler, and united by their conviction that “Barney’s Version” is a bad name for a band, they settled on his children’s story, Hooded Fang. 
Ben Hermann is a singer songwriter from North Bay who currently resides in Toronto where he continues to create, collaborate and perform. He released a five-track album last fall called Red Sky in Morning. 
Well, it says here on the bio that he's Jim Cuddy's son, but from the opening notes, you can throw your preconceptions away. This is no junior singer-songwriter trying to find his way around the acoustic guitar with heartfelt tunes. He's on the piano for one thing, and no, he's no Elton balladeer either. Instead, it sounds like he's from some other generation entirely, some made-up one that has touches of country in the 50's, New Orleans in the 20's, and Cab Calloway in the 40's. Jazzy-bluesy numbers are swapped with rollicking proto-rockabilly, everything swinging.
Singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega, originally from Toronto and now living in Nashville has been described as a blend of Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Emmy Lou Harris. Ortega is currently signed to Last Gang Records where she has released two albums, most recently Cigarettes & Truckstops in October 2012. Lindi has toured extensively as a backup singer for Brandon Flowers, the lead singer of The Killers, in support of his solo album, Flamingo including dates in the United States, UK, Europe and Mexico, as well as televised live performances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Later... with Jools Holland and at Abbey Road Studios. Last year she was nominated for the 2012 Polaris Prize and two Juno Awards for New Artist of the Year and Roots & Traditional Album.
Juno award winner Old Man Luedecke hasn't been home to Chester, Nova Scotia much of late, what with tours of Eastern Europe and the UK leading up to this year’s summer festival season. Chris Luedecke is well-known for his storytelling through song, using a mix of folk, bluegrass and pop hooks. His most recent album, Tender is the Night, was recorded in Nashville and has earned some rave reviews and has garnered Chris a Juno nomination. His album, Proof of Love, won the 2009 Juno Award for traditional folk album of the year.
